Over a week has passed since President Donald Trump got acquitted for both articles of impeachment and it is evident that he is taking retaliatory actions against those whom he thinks has wronged him. A new report reveals that Trump may be asking the Department of Justice to prosecute Robert Mueller.
As reported by Politicalflare, Trump ranted on Twitter regarding Mueller and accused him of lying to Congress. Trump’s rant towards Mueller follows his tweet of having his longtime ally Roger Stone receive a much shorter sentence, most likely by his request. “Congratulations to Attorney General Bill Barr for taking charge of a case that was totally out of control and perhaps should not have even been brought. Evidence now clearly shows that the Mueller Scam was improperly brought & tainted. Even Bob Mueller lied to Congress!” tweeted Trump.
Stone’s trial is currently in the spotlight, and four prosecutors have already decided to step down from their positions. Stone is in trial for charges of witness tampering, lying to Congress, and obstruction of justice. The prosecutors demanded that Stone be sentenced to nine years in prison to which the Justice Department had agreed, only to shift decisions in a court filing to cut Stone’s sentence to three to four years. The defense urged the judge to factor in Stone’s age, health, personal predicament, and lack of criminal history. The prosecutors who resigned from the case were part of the team under Mueller who investigated the interference of Russia during the 2016 elections.
Nevertheless, it would be up to the judges to decide which sentence is more appropriate as they do not necessarily have to agree with the Justice Department’s amendments to Stone’s prison sentence. The verdict will be given on the 20th of February.
With Trump citing his opinions regarding the current political scandals that are front and center in America, Business Insider reports that experts are predicting that the public does not have a lot of time left to stop Trump and the Republican lawmakers spiraling into turning a country into an authoritarian nation under one party.
